Ultralow temperatures
A. Reiser, C. Enss
Copper rod for the demagnetization stage
of the cryostat. Weight approx. 18 kg
Presently, a cryostat is being installed at the institute that will be able to reach temperatures well below 0.1 mK. It is a dilution refrigerator followed by a nuclear demagnetization stage which had formerly been installed at the University of Bayreuth, and where it has reached the low-temperature world record of 1.5 K
With this cryostat the dynamics of complex systems at ultralow temperatures will be investigated. Amongst others, experiments on metallic glasses, on microscopic systems, and on spin glasses are planned.
